Condition: The metal is almost AS NEW. The stock has a couple of small marks (visible in the photographs). The action is very strong and solid. The barrels are mirror. The blue on the barrel is almost 100%. A previous owner has engraved very finely his social Security Number inside the action (not visible unless it is dismounted). Comes with original case with keys included.

Extremly rare Montreal Police Whitneyville Rolling Block

It was in 1836 that a royal ordinance required "to establish an effective police system in the Corporations of Montreal and Quebec and to organize there the offices of the police who act under the authority of the civil secretary of the governor of the province of Lower Canada”. It is therefore a provincial police force that was first created to watch over the metropolis. On May 10, 1865, the service changed its name to the "Montreal Police Department". The Governor of Lower Canada authorized the Corporation of Montreal to arm its officers and police agents. Like their British counterparts, Montreal police officers are unarmed. They obtained the right to carry a weapon only around 1870. These were however kept at the police station and the officers had to pick them up there when they needed them. At that time, the weapons shared by the police were of the military type.
Between 1871 and 1881, Whitneyville cie, USA, produced several types of Rolling Block rifles. In this time, this company saled to the City of Montreal 60 Rolling Block military carbines rifle. In .433 caliber, all of them had a serial number range 6700 to 7500. The Montreal police Rolling Block have a service number on the butt plate and Montreal police mark on the barrel in front of the rear sight.
This particular Whitneyville Rolling Block is one of the rare survivor of this contract. Probably no more than 4 or 5 are always in collector hands and the majority of them are in a museum. His serial number is 6734, so in the first batch maked. The butt plate have the number 18 and the barrel have in the right place the Montreal Police marking. The bore is excellent, bright without pitting. That's a saddle ring carbine. The rifle is in excellent mechanical condition for his age. This rifle is a piece of Canadian history and more particularly of the Canadian police.

Description: My Carbine is Early Oval cut M 1 , in Original service condition, like this one below with a serial number lower 1182xxx
This Winchester Carbine ( not mine Just a sample on Gun International , the same product like mine ) was produced in November of 1943. The carbine's serial number is 1281303. It has the standard 18 inch Winchester undated barrel. The bore is in very fine bright condition with no issues. All of the parts are correct for the serial number range and production date. Almost all of the parts are correctly marked with the"W". The other parts are left correctly unmarked. This carbine has the correct blued flat bolt. . The Magazine is Winchester coded as well as the oiler. The Winchester high wood stock is marked W.R.A - G.H.D. with no box around the letters. This carbine has the correct early "flip" rear sight that is original to this gun and not restored. This carbine is in service used condition. There is no abuse to this carbine. The wood has all of the original finish intact. There are some minor dings present on the stock. This is a very nice service used Winchester carbine! This carbine has not been rebuilt or restored. It is getting very difficult to find original M1 carbines in original as issued condition today! Here is an original as issued Winchester Carbine that would be a great addition in any collection!
